Studios & Shops

This section is for the businesses people walk into rather than call out to their home, which covers photography studios, gyms and fitness centres, salons and barbers, tattoo studios, boutiques and small shops, cafes and bakeries, and the dance, music, and art studios where somebody steps through the door and decides within about a minute whether this is the kind of place they want to spend their time and their money.

The writing problem here is less than it is for the trades, because nobody arriving at a salon website is in a panic, but it is no less real, since almost everybody reading these pages is weighing you up against two or three other places before they commit to a single visit.

Someone looking at a gym is often quietly wondering whether they will feel out of place the moment they walk in, someone browsing a photographer is really asking whether their own big day will end up looking that good, and someone reading a boutique’s page is trying to work out whether it is worth the trip across town at all.

Most of these websites answer none of that, because they fill the page with opening hours and a welcome line and say almost nothing about what the visit itself will actually feel like, and the guides in this section are built to close exactly that gap, with wording you can lift straight onto your own page.
