Three things people usually write about

You do not need a reason to get in touch, but if you are wondering whether your message is the sort of thing I want to receive, it is almost certainly one of these three.

• A website that needs a rewrite

  Send me the address of a local business site, whether it is your own or somebody else's, and tell me which part of it is not working. I look at all of them, and the interesting ones eventually appear here as a Real Examples post with the business name taken out.

• Something I got wrong

  If a guide on this site contains a mistake, or gives advice that simply does not hold up where you live and work, I would rather hear it than leave it sitting there. I will correct the page and add a line at the bottom saying what changed and when.

• A question about your own wording

  If you are stuck on a headline or a service page and cannot work out why it feels wrong, describe the problem and paste the words in. I cannot promise a full rewrite of your site, but I usually have something useful to say about a paragraph.

How long I take to reply

I am one person and this site is not the only site I work on, so a reply normally takes two or three days. It may take slightly longer if your mail was sent over a weekend, though nothing goes unread. If you haven't received a reply after a week, please resend it.

One small request: please do not send guest post offers, link exchange requests, or messages asking me to add a link to somebody's page. I do not publish any of it and I do not reply to those.
